The National Library of Israel – Hierarchical Item Component

The hierarchical component is a significant component of the “Archive” item pages.
This component allows the viewer to understand the structure of the entire archive and the interrelationships between the various items in the archive – in a graphical and simplified way.

In addition, it includes a mechanism that allows the user to delve into the same archive from the current page where he is located and this without losing the broader context.

Prior to the development of this component, there was no adequate response on the National Library website to display archive-type items and users who needed archival information had to go through a cumbersome and complicated experience.

After the launch of this component, satisfaction surveys were conducted among the users in which it was found that the component did solve a lot of pain points for the users, relieving them and saving them a lot of time in reviewing archive items.
